A marriage
is taking place as the credits roll. A child looks on and then without
explanation, the faceless betrothed couple are seen driving away with
this child, all of ten years or so, screaming for his mother and running
behind the car. He manages to fling a stone at the car and break the
windshield but is left abandoned. We do not know why. He helps an
escaping criminal, Haji Baba for no reason except that in today's
day and age, it seems to be the logical thing to do, assist the criminals
and lie to the police. Haji baba takes him under his wing and renames
him Vishwa, adding him to the collection of strays that he has already
picked up. Just at that moment, a baby is also found at the doorstep,
who again Haji Baba adopts and names Shiva. Next shot, two men walking away with a huge fire in the background. We have Vishwa (Jackie) and Shiva (Sharad Kapoor), the right hand men on Haji Baba. Such is his reliance on these two men that Haji Baba decides to give Vishwa control. Much to the disgust of the other strays, one of which is Dalal (Kiran Kumar), Dalal murders Haji Baba and frames Vishwa for the murder. Five years later Vishwa returns to avenge the injustice that was meted out to him. He has a wife (Ayesha Jhulka) and son and with the assistance of Shiva, goes about attempting to wreck Dalal's business. And this goes on and on and on, one episode after the other. Now with the film having no where to go, we are introduced to retired police commissioner (Vikram Gokhale) who is asked to bring law and order back to Mumbai. He returns to deal with both Dalal and Vishwa but soon realises that Vishwa is the abandoned child that was left behind. Vishwa also saves the police commissioner from Dalal's nefarious deathly plot. So pray, why did the old lady leave her son behind. We go into a flashback and as she had borne an illegitimate child, she was forced by her father to get married or then face the prospect of her father killing her son and himself. Convincing stuff this! So she marries and abandons her child although you would wonder, with the kind of man that she married, that he would have accepted her child as well. Its is clear from the film that he knew that she had a child and would set a place for him at the table every day!!! And better still, she chose not to bear any more children. And whatever happened to her father? The oh so tragic mother need not have suffered at all. Why she made any kind of sacrifice is beyond comprehension. I have no idea why this kind of film was ever made. There is absolutely nothing new in it and nothing of any interest at all. Never having heard of the director before, I cannot say what his credentials are like but judging by this lame duck of a movie, I doubt very much that he will be doing very much in hindi cinema again. Jackie Shroff sleepwalks through his role and no one else makes any impression. Suman Raganathan is there for gyrations and glamour, and Sharad Kapoor is wasted. Music is awful with not a single catchy or memorable tune. And incidentally, whatever happened to Ayesha Jhulka in the final analysis??? No one seemed to care either? All theories would be very welcome. Released without much publicity or fanfare, this one will be a crushing flop. What a film to release for Eid! |
